What Happens In The First Session? Before our first session, you’ll receive a welcome email confirming the day and time of your appointment. The email will also include a link to our client portal where you can complete the paperwork online. The paperwork consists of a contract and informed consent for the therapy, along with a questionnaire inviting your teen or young adult to share what’s going on in their life that has caused them to reach out, and some of their hopes and goals for the process. Please complete the paperwork at least 48 hours prior to your session to give us a chance to review your information. You will also receive a secure video link for our online session or directions on how to find our offices if we are meeting face to face. In the first appointment, we will review the intake paperwork, discuss confidentiality, and go over scheduling and payment. Once the housekeeping tasks are taken care of, we will get to the important part: why you are coming in. We will ask lots of questions and listen as you share what brings in you in and what you want to get out of our work together. We will begin to develop our relationship and we will start to develop goals for your future.

How Long Will It Take? There is no way to say beforehand how long the coaching process will take. Each person and each problem is different. In general, the longer you’ve struggled with something, the longer it will take to change the way you think and act in order to overcome it. Success also depends on your own motivation and your willingness to do sometimes difficult work on yourself.
